It’s the beginning of summer and that means it’s graduation season! We see the party decor in every store and social media is loaded with pictures of young people in their caps and gowns. Ironically, the only video of graduation that caught my attention was a close-up of a young graduate’s bright yellow high heeled shoes. The irony was that this young lady couldn’t walk in the shoes and had great difficulty negotiating the fifty yards she needed to cross awkwardly in front of hundreds of spectators.
Have you ever been in the limelight and were only aware of your clumsiness? There is nothing that can change that event, but you can prevent it from happening again. Ask yourself:
- Could you recognize your “yellow shoes?”
- What questions would you ask yourself before another spotlight falls on you?
- What questions would you ask a manager on your team so that they are confident and accomplished when in the limelight?
As we graduate from our embarrassing moments, let us make sure we make the world less uncomfortable for someone else too.
